Vision of Establishing "New Life Garden" Gospel Drug Rehabilitation Centre in 2001

¡@

Perhaps you and many people would ask why we need another gospel drug rehabilitation centre.  Everyone knows the drug abuse problem we are facing is more serious than anytime in the past.  We have much younger drug abusers, and the harm drug abuse has caused to individuals, family and the society is critical.  The establishment of " New Life Garden" is a response of a group of Christians from different professional background and ex-drug addicts to God's call.  It is their commitment to act on the graving problem of drug abuse in our society.

How different is " New Life Garden" from the other gospel drug rehabilitation centres?

We have a very strong faith on ministry.  We believe that man is an integral whole, our physical, psychological and spiritual domains cannot be separated and require whole-person care.  We reckon that causes of drug addiction are complicated, and a multi-disciplinary approach with input from various professionals is required to help drug addicts.  Hence, basing on the teachings from the gospel, we help drug addicts to free themselves from their problems and entanglements.  We guide clients to reorganise their life through professional counselling, thus develop their potentials, rebuild positive interpersonal relationship and integrate them to the society.  Moreover, we encourage the rehabilitated clients to contribute back to the society, and train them to be the disciples of Jesus Christ and serve the drug abusers community.

Founder - Testimony of Rev. Sam Chun-wah Cheng

Ex-drug Addict ¡V I had been involved in the triad society and the drug addicts circle for some time when I was young, experiencing the struggles drug addicts have.  Eighteen years ago, God saved me through putting me to gospel drug rehabilitation.  Hence, it is my responsibility to serve the drug addicts community.

Evangelist ¡V After saving me, God called me to enter the school of theology to equip myself.  I become his evangelist, serving the church.  The theology education has helped me to nurture the church community according to God¡¦s will, and guide them to be Christians.

Counsellor ¡V Once again, God gave me the opportunity to further my study in Australia.  Besides continuing my theology study, I also undertake counselling training and became a professional counsellor.  The counselling training facilitates me to have greater understanding to the psychological conditions of drug addicts, and thus enables me to consider various effective means to address their practical problems.

At this moment in time, God has brought this team of ex-drug addicts and Christians from different professional background together to respond to the need of the community.  Facing this challenging mission, I am a bit overwhelmed and unsure if we can manage.  Yet, we are confident that with God¡¦s blessings and guidance, more people will be touched and join us as partners to work for God.
